Year:
2018
Length:
56 minutes

Tagline:
Conversations with Rolf Orthel.

Logline:
A portrait of filmmaker, producer and teacher Rolf Orthel.

Synopsis:
Rolf Orthel (The Hague, 1936) is an extraordinary filmmaker, who began in a time when filmmaking was not yet “professionalised”. Quite some filmmakers back then combined directing with producing and had never heard of a logline or premiss. In a lively account Rolf’s passion for film is discussed: how it began, filming then and now, teaching. Above all he makes a plea for filmmaking as a quest, an adventure without too narrowly written screenplays and predetermined outcomes. In passing, this film is about a piece of (Dutch) film history highlighting unique archival material that does not seem to have lost its topicality at all.
